The club was formed by a group of people from the nearby South Hants naturist club who wanted to continue swimming during the winter. At that time South Hants, (now sadly closed), did not have an indoor swimming pool and this was seen as a way to keep the social and sporting scene alive all year. It has been very successful in that aim, as it is still running after 40 years and with some of the founder members too!

Our membership numbers around 40, a good mix of ages, couples and singles. Our normal attendance is about 15. As the pool is 20 meters long this is cosy enough not to feel too crowded. Apart from the usual swimming activity, our last swim before Christmas ends with drinks and mince pies at the side of the pool which always goes down well. Our AGM, held in April, is normally followed by a lunch, which makes for a good get together. Both are clothed !

The pool is right next to Eastney Naturist Beach which has an active campaign group, some of whom are members of Halcyon. It’s not unusual to meet in the pool on a summer’s evening and then again on the beach during the day.
So, if you’re visiting Portsmouth & Southsea sometime and would like to swim without the hindrance of a cossie why not arrange a visit on our next swimming evening where you’ll be made very welcome.
